Candy's Cats wouldn't be what it is today without our volunteers. Some match cats with families, some care for them in our adoption centers, and others help behind the scenes. Every hour you give helps save a life.
How to become a volunteer
Getting started is simple. Here's the path from application to your first shift.

Pick a location & apply
Choose the adoption center where you'd like to help and fill out that location's volunteer form. Each site has its own volunteer coordinator, so use the form for the location you want.

Meet your coordinator & train
Once your form is in, your location's coordinator will reach out to welcome you and train you on everything you need to know for your role.

Set your schedule & get started
Pick recurring shifts that fit your life. Most volunteers choose one or two shifts a week once they're trained, and our cats love the consistency.
Volunteer roles
There are many ways to get involved, from hands-on cat care to behind-the-scenes support:
Adoption Counselor
Match cats and kittens with the right forever homes at our weekend adoption events. You'll chat with adopters, handle initial screening, and walk families through the paperwork. Training and tools provided.
Cat Care Technician
Visit our adoption centers to feed, water, clean litter, tidy cubicles, and give our cats some love and play. Visits run about one to two hours, with morning, afternoon, and evening shifts available seven days a week.
Transportation
Help move cats to vet visits, events, and new homes. A reliable car and insurance are required, and your time, vehicle, and gas are deeply appreciated.
Laundry
Keep our cats' bedding and towels clean, at home or at a laundromat. Volunteers are responsible for picking up and dropping off the laundry at our Apopka or Winter Garden locations; donated laundry supplies are always welcome.
Administrative Support
Lend a hand with day-to-day office tasks at Candy's Cat Cottage in Apopka. Comfort with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is a plus.
Marketing, Fundraising & Events
Put your skills to work on fundraising campaigns, marketing, and planning our adoption and community events. Many of these roles can be done remotely.
What We Ask of Our Volunteers
- ✓Age Requirements: Be at least 18 years old (or 13+ if volunteering alongside a parent or guardian).
- ✓A Passion for Cats: A genuine love for our feline friends is a must!
- ✓Dependable Access: Reliable transportation to your volunteer site, or the necessary equipment to help us remotely.
- ✓Commitment to Consistency: A willingness to set a recurring schedule once trained, ensuring our cats receive steady, reliable care.

Do I need experience with cats to volunteer?+
Not at all. We provide training for every role. Just bring your love of cats and we'll teach you the rest.
Can I volunteer at more than one location?+
Yes! Each location has its own coordinator and its own form, so simply fill out a form for each site you'd like to help at.
How much time do I need to commit?+
Most roles are recurring shifts of about one to two hours. Once you're trained, we ask you to set a regular schedule for a while so our cats get consistent care.
Can I help if I can't volunteer in person?+
Absolutely. Remote roles like marketing, fundraising, and administrative support are always needed. Just note your interest on the volunteer form.
